The Special Education Teacher plays a crucial role in providing quality services to students with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will be committed to team participation and collaboration in planning and implementing student programs, including special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff.

  • Develops and prepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
  • Supports learning for students with a wide range of disabilities, from kindergarten through grade 12
  • Designs individualized instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, catering to different learning styles
  • Works closely with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop educational plans promoting students' growth and development
  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment
  • Coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff, fostering seamless communication and cooperation
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress and participates in review and revision of IEPs as needed
  • Provides guidance and support to teaching assistants who work with students with disabilities
  • Assists students in preparing for grade transitions and life skills, empowering them to become independent individuals
  • Evaluates students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and progress
  • Communicates regularly with other teachers to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students
  • Fosters positive relationships with students and their families through open and respectful communication
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Valid state teaching certification, as required by state and district regulations
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a teaching environment, preferably in special education
  • State teacher certification in Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, or Standard Special Teaching preferred
  • Endorsement in Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Compliance with professional standards of practice
  • Participation in Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • CPR certification if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current health certificate, as per contract or state regulation
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training, as applicable to the job site
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Age 18 or older
Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary of $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a 401(k) savings plan and awards and recognition programs.
