Role Summary: As the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining food safety and quality standards throughout our operations and product offerings. Your responsibilities will include developing and executing best practices, policies, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards while upholding our stringent quality benchmarks. You will also mentor and train your team and other stakeholders, driving a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives for continuous enhancement in Food Safety and Quality Assurance, aligning with bakery team objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish ambitious yet achievable performance targets for microbiological safety, foreign material control, regulatory adherence, and Food Safety Plan implementation.
  • Oversee the recruitment, motivation, and development of food safety and quality assurance personnel, ensuring effective staffing and management of all roles.
  • Implement and refine standardized food safety and quality assurance protocols, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HARPC).
  • Communicate Quality and Food Safety goals clearly to bakery management and operational teams.
  • Provide necessary training to bakery and Central Service staff on quality standards, food safety, and hygiene practices.
  • Review root cause analyses and corrective actions for all non-conformances at the bakery level, addressing customer-reported issues effectively.
  • Support bakery management in resolving food safety and quality discrepancies, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective measures are implemented.
  • Verify the completion of ongoing sensory evaluations of finished products and identify quality improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct independent assessments of food safety, GMP, and hygiene practices across bakeries, distribution centers, and supplier locations as required.
  • Monitor and manage bakery FSQA budgets in collaboration with bakery controllers.
  • Assist in preparation for customer and third-party audits, leading when necessary.
  • Guide bakeries in the application of AIMS programs and ETQ compliance platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to bakery FSQA Compliance Calendars.
  • Support the ongoing review and updating of Food Safety Plans to align with current GMP practices and preventive controls.
  • Assist bakery Food Safety teams in evaluating and implementing controls for various hazards, including biological and chemical risks.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the Aspire Bakeries Recall and Traceability Program.
  • Stay informed on applicable food regulations and lead bakery teams in compliance efforts while liaising with regulatory personnel.
  • Lead the implementation of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, assisting in recertification and audit preparations.
  • Engage with key customers to maintain and enhance the company’s reputation as a supplier of high-quality foods.
  • Ensure thorough investigation of customer complaints using root cause analysis and corrective actions, responding within required timeframes.
  • Support new product development by ensuring necessary controls and inspections are in place for successful launches.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or Food Science preferred, or equivalent experience in the food industry.
  • At least 5 years of comprehensive experience in food processing, safety, and quality, particularly in the manufacturing sector, with familiarity in HACCP, USDA, or FDA standards.
  • Training in HACCP principles.
  • Certification in a GFSI standard such as BRC or SQF.
  • Experience with GFSI, BRC, SQF, and/or USDA audits is desirable.
  • Understanding of microbiological sampling and analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene practices, hygienic zoning, and environmental monitoring.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets and statistical software.

Salary Range: $93,000-$115,000
