As the Food Safety and Quality Manager at Aspire Bakeries, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining food safety and quality throughout our operations and product offerings. Your responsibilities will include developing and executing best practices, policies, and programs to comply with regulatory standards and uphold our high-quality benchmarks. You will also be responsible for providing training, guidance, and constructive feedback to your team and stakeholders to promote continuous improvement and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives for continuous enhancement in Food Safety and Quality Assurance by aligning with bakery team objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish ambitious yet attainable performance expectations for microbiological standards, foreign material control, regulatory adherence, and Food Safety Plan execution.
  • Oversee the recruitment, motivation, and development of food safety and quality assurance personnel to ensure effective staffing and management. Collaborate with Human Resources for ongoing progress reviews and conduct timely performance evaluations for direct reports, recommending developmental training as necessary.
  • Implement and refine standardized food safety and quality assurance policies, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HARPC), while maintaining comprehensive food safety and quality documentation.
  • Clearly communicate Quality and Food Safety objectives to bakery management and operations teams.
  • Provide necessary training to bakery and Central Service personnel on quality standards, food safety, and fundamental food hygiene practices.
  • Review and ensure effective completion of root cause analyses and corrective actions for all non-conformances at the bakery level and those reported by customers.
  • Support bakery management teams in addressing food safety and quality nonconformities, implementing effective root cause analyses and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Verify the completion of ongoing finished product sensory evaluations and identify quality improvement opportunities for bakery teams.
  • Conduct independent assessments of food safety, GMP, and bakery hygiene as needed across bakeries, distribution centers, and supplier locations.
  • Monitor and manage bakery FSQA budgets in collaboration with bakery controllers.
  • Assist in preparing for and leading customer and third-party audits as required.
  • Guide bakeries in the implementation of AIMS programs and ETQ compliance platforms.
  • Ensure completion of bakery FSQA Compliance Calendars.
  • Support the ongoing review and updating of existing Food Safety Plans to incorporate current GMP practices and preventive controls.
  • Assist bakery Food Safety teams in evaluating and implementing appropriate controls for various hazards to our products.
  • Ensure effective implementation and adherence to the Aspire Bakeries Recall and Traceability Program.
  • Stay informed about applicable food regulations and lead bakery teams in compliance efforts while effectively interacting with regulatory personnel.
  • Lead the implementation of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Standard and assist bakery locations in preparation for recertification and audits.
  • Engage with key customers to enhance the company's reputation as a reliable supplier of quality foods.
  • Ensure bakery teams thoroughly investigate customer complaints using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions, while analyzing complaint trends for continuous improvement.
  • Support new food development initiatives to ensure appropriate controls and inspections are established for successful product launches.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or Food Science preferred, or equivalent experience in the food industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years of comprehensive experience in food processing, food safety, and quality assurance within the manufacturing food industry, with a preference for HACCP, USDA, or FDA experience.
  • Training in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) is essential.
  • Certification in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF is required.
  • Previous experience with GFSI, BRC, SQF, and/or USDA audits is desirable.
  • Understanding of microbiology sampling methods and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, hygienic zoning, cGMPs, and environmental monitoring.
  • Strong writing, statistical analysis (SPC and charting), analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets, statistical programs, and SAP.

Salary Range: $93,000-$115,000

Aspire Bakeries LLC values the contributions of each team member. The determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on factors such as location, shift, education, skills, and experience. The listed pay scale is generally for candidates meeting the specified qualifications and requirements. Additional compensation may be available for candidates exceeding these qualifications.
