Construction Plans Evaluator I - $30.77/Hourly

Engages in technical activities involving the assessment and analysis of construction plans to ensure adherence to the Florida Building Code and other relevant regulations, statutes, and ordinances. Promotes the establishment of public trust and confidence in the City and its Building Department.

Construction Plans Evaluator II - $32.31/Hourly

Conducts responsible technical activities in the review and analysis of both commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other pertinent regulations, statutes, and ordinances. Holds authority for a wider scope of reviews with two (2) trade certifications.

Construction Plans Evaluator III - $33.92/Hourly

Performs responsible technical activities in the review and analysis of commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other applicable regulations, statutes, and ordinances. Holds authority for a broader scope of reviews with three (3) trade certifications.

Construction Plans Evaluator IV - $35.62/Hourly

Engages in responsible technical activities in the review and analysis of commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other relevant regulations, statutes, and ordinances. Holds authority for a wider scope of reviews with four (4) or more trade certifications or Residential Combination certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Upholds the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie in decision-making and actions; fosters strategic and collaborative relationships while interacting with others to build confidence and trust; delivers exceptional customer service by taking proactive measures to achieve objectives, maintaining high productivity levels through innovative solutions to work challenges.
  • Evaluates plans and applications in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Coordinates and routes reviews to the Fire Marshal.
  • Prepares feedback for code deficiencies.
  • Calculates fees based on approved fee schedules.
  • Participates in meetings with staff, engineers, architects, and contractors.
  • Maintains proficiency with code updates and ordinances.
  • Tracks and maintains required continuing education (CEU) requirements for licensure as per state and department policy.
  • Consults with contractors, developers, or the public to clarify necessary corrective actions for compliance with building codes.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients, achieving customer service goals and departmental expectations for excellence.
  • Interprets plans, specifications, correspondence, and related construction documents.
  • Assists in emergency response measures as needed.
  • Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Construction Plans Evaluator I -
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Five (5) years of experience in construction required. Two years (2) in commercial construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor required.

Construction Plans Evaluator II -
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Six (6) years of experience in construction required. Two years (2) in commercial construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor required.

Construction Plans Evaluator III -
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Seven (7) years of experience in construction required. Two years (2) in commercial construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor required.

Construction Plans Evaluator IV -
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Eight (8) years of experience in construction required. Two years (2) in commercial construction, design, or inspections of buildings as a supervisor or contractor required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.

Construction Plans Evaluator I -
Possession and maintenance of one (1) State of Florida-mandated building plans examiner certification or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months from date of hire.

Construction Plans Evaluator II -
Possession and maintenance of two (2) State of Florida-mandated building plans examiner certifications or the ability to obtain certifications required within twelve (12) months from date of hire.

Construction Plans Evaluator III -
Possession and maintenance of three (3) State of Florida-mandated building plans examiner certifications or the ability to obtain certifications within twelve (12) months from date of hire.

Construction Plans Evaluator IV -
Possession and maintenance of four (4) State of Florida-mandated building plans examiner certifications or residential combination certification, or the ability to obtain certifications within twelve (12) months from date of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of building construction.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of building codes.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation in order to prepare and compose results of inspections.
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans, site plans, development plans, and zoning maps.
  • Knowledge of commercial occupancy classifications and special occupancies, and the applicable code requirements for each.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex commercial and residential building plans and specifications.
  • Ability to complete thorough reviews of commercial plans.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints.
