Job Overview

Position Summary: The Educational Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting educators and students, fostering an enriching educational atmosphere. The ideal candidate is dedicated to the field of education, exhibits outstanding interpersonal abilities, and is focused on empowering students to reach their maximum potential.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or higher, or:
    • Completion of a minimum of two (2) years of coursework at an accredited institution, totaling sixty (60) semester hours
    • Successful completion of assessments in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Writing via Workkeys
    • Michigan Test for Teacher Certification – Basic Skills (MTTC)
    • ETS Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Prior experience working with school-aged children is preferred
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff

Physical Demands: Light Work: May require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects; Regular standing, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.

Employment Terms: Part-time, 35 hours per week. Compensation will align with the approved salary structure of the organization. The duration of employment and working hours will be determined by the organization.

Performance Evaluation: Job performance will be assessed by the School Principal in accordance with the organization's evaluation policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional rapport with supervisors, staff, families, students, and the community.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to fulfill job responsibilities and assignments promptly.
  • Oversee and manage student behavior, ensuring a safe and respectful classroom environment.
  • Supervise student safety during various school activities, including arrival, dismissal, and lunch.
  • Assist students with diverse learning needs by providing additional support and encouragement.
  • Help with administrative duties such as grading, maintaining student records, and organizing classroom resources.
  • Collaborate with educators to design and implement instructional strategies that align with educational objectives.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to team meetings and school functions.
  • Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, assist individual and small groups of students in developing specific academic skills.
  • Adhere to and uphold all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Experience working with children in an educational context is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and parents.
  • Ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students and support their academic and social/emotional growth.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to punctuality and regular attendance.
