Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and recovery training to individuals receiving services, while also advocating for their needs and rights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals struggling with substance use disorder, psychological trauma, or mental health disorders.
  • Engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assist in identifying their hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
  • Teach recovery and life skills using recovery tools and best practices.
  • Function as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and promoting hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy.
  • Serve as an advocate, providing information and peer support to clients and their families.
  • Share relevant personal experiences related to the recovery process, promoting a supportive environment for individuals in recovery.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams and other supports to arrange services or resources to help individuals achieve their goals.
  • Conduct follow-ups, attend meetings, and interact with clients and their families to ensure ongoing support and care.
  • Assist clients with finding resources for housing, employment, and education, promoting overall well-being and stability.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with professional standards and ensure compliance with DWIHN policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year of professional experience performing peer recovery and support duties and responsibilities.
  • A valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a safe and acceptable driving record; reliable transportation is required.
  • Must obtain Peer Support Specialist certification within 18 months of hire through the successful completion of the Peer Employment Training through the State of Michigan.
Working Conditions

Employees in this classification must travel throughout Wayne County, visiting homes, community-based settings, hospitals, schools, and other locations as needed. Mobile Crisis Operations is a 24/7 unit, and part-time positions will work 12-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday, with flexibility to work other days, hours, or shifts as necessary.

Please note that this is a contingent position, and proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 is required as a condition of employment. Medical or religious accommodations or other exemptions may be approved when properly supported.
