About the Role
This remote full-time leadership position combines managerial oversight with hands-on responsibilities within our Accounting Practice Area.
As the Head of Financial Services, you will lead a talented team of accountants and financial controllers in delivering essential accounting services to our agricultural and food clients.
You will also engage directly with clients to provide fractional controller services.
As the practice area manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of this expanding practice area while collaborating with our consulting and marketing teams.
Travel Requirements: Limited travel is expected (2-4 times per year) for team retreats, client visits, and conferences.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Area Management:
Initial Integration:
In the first month, you will integrate with the team, familiarize yourself with Good Roots' accounting principles, and begin managing existing client projects.
Ongoing Management:
In the following months, you will oversee the daily workflow of practice area members, contribute to strategic planning, and collaborate on new project initiatives.
Leadership:
You will fully lead the accounting team, assist in hiring and training new members, manage the practice area budget, and drive service innovation and quality assurance.
Fractional Controller Responsibilities:
Implement existing financial management frameworks to provide robust support for our clients.
Conduct monthly accounting reviews to ensure accuracy in bookkeeping.
Analyze financial reports and facilitate regular meetings with clients to help them understand their financial data.
Develop and oversee financial controls and accounting processes to enhance financial clarity and performance.
Work collaboratively with clients to establish financial management priorities.
Assist clients' bookkeepers with accounting system enhancements, including workflows and margin analysis.
Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports for various stakeholders.
Educate clients on financial systems and business processes through virtual platforms.
Maintain a rolling cash flow tool and conduct regular accountability meetings.
Collaborate with our Business Consultants on projects to provide bookkeeping support and advanced analyses.
Support nonprofit clients with financial tracking, grant management, and budget coaching.
Who You Are
You possess proven senior-level experience in accounting principles and applications, with specific expertise in QuickBooks Online.
A minimum of three years of QuickBooks experience is required, with QBO ProAdvisor certification preferred.
Technical Proficiency:
You are highly skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack, and project management tools.
Process Improvement:
You have a strong ability to develop and document procedures for internal processes and client resources.
Analytical Skills:
You are determined to analyze clients' financial records and collaborate with team members to recommend improvements.
Project Management:
You can effectively manage multiple client projects and team priorities.
Management Skills:
You are knowledgeable in all core management areas, including planning, organizing, staffing, and leadership.
Emotional Intelligence:
You exhibit strong self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management skills.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in the agricultural sector, leading an accounting firm, and understanding GAAP is preferred.
Familiarity with nationwide sales tax and payroll processes is also beneficial.
