Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Central Communications Officer to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our Protective Services department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Staff an established Protective Services dispatch center, handling telephone and radio communications, camera and alarm monitoring, and Computerized Aided Dispatch (CAD) information entries.
  • Control the communications and access control network(s) in Protective Services Headquarters, performing varied responsibilities such as triaging communications, written documentation, data entry incident tracking, building access for numerous access points simultaneously, operating lost and found system, and patient valuables system.
  • Monitor cameras in an effort to support crime prevention efforts via IP video, monitor alarm annunciation computer system(s), and operate radio dispatch and department telephone system(s) answering emergency calls and dispatches in coordination with Call Center Operators.
  • Be the primary customer contact for routine and emergency calls, monitoring the fire alarm systems, and ensuring all radio and telephone communication is done in a polite and courteous manner at all times.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; expected to successfully complete the department's FTO program; Statewide Emergency Telecommunications certification preferred.
  • Minimum one year of quality experience in a Security, Police, Fire, EMS, DMV-type Officer/Peace Officer or Dispatch position, including clerical duties, heavy telephone/radio usage, with rapid and accurate decision making.
  • Minimum one year experience with computers, with basic computer skills; experience on any security system is a plus, but Protective Services will train incumbent on our systems as needed.
  • State of CT Guard Card preferred at date of hire; must meet the requirements set forth by the CT Department of Public Safety pertaining to the licensing of Security Officers.
