Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Job Summary:
As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality ultrasound imaging services to patients. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare ultrasound rooms and diagnostic equipment, perform high-quality testing, and operate equipment according to prescribed safety standards. You will also be responsible for developing films and exercising professional judgment and upholding medical ethics in the performance of diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform quality images through clinical protocols and position patients to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest, respecting patients' comfort and ability.
Develop films in accordance with radiographic techniques and evaluate images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
Provide patient education on procedures according to age-specific needs and facilitate patients' cooperation and alleviate anxiety by addressing concerns.
Verify appropriate procedures to be performed by checking physicians' orders and outpatient prescriptions, and contact physicians with discrepancies.
Ensure appropriate documentation is completed prior to procedures and assist radiologists with procedures as needed.
Computer System:
Ensure patient information is accurately inputted into the departmental computer system.
Check-in patients for the appropriate radiological procedure, as directed in IDX-Rad, and select the correct account during check-in.
Customer Service:
Provide timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive and friendly manner, to include patients, physicians, and other fellow employees.
Inform consumers and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed, and promote patient-focused care throughout daily activities.
Patient and Employee Safety:
Perform all necessary equipment checks prior to use, thereby protecting patient and staff safety, and ensure patient and regulatory standards are adhered to.
Suggest ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated, complete quality assurance and quality control activities as appropriate, and establish patients' identification.
Ensure no repeat studies due to failure to check armband and/or properly identified patient, observe patients during procedures, and report any unusual occurrences or changes in patients' condition to appropriate personnel.
General Behavior:
Arrive at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work, take lunch and breaks at appropriate times, and leave work at the end of the assigned shift.
Maintain neat, clean, and well-stocked radiology rooms, identify staff training issues, and participate in policy and procedure development as appropriate.
Communicate concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management, work as an effective team member with other colleagues to efficiently perform radiological procedures, and rotate shifts and assignments as required.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED.
Basic Life Support required at hire.
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate required at hire from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of ultrasound experience.
