Forensic Care Specialist for Trauma Survivors

At WVU Medicine, we are seeking a skilled Forensic Care Specialist for Trauma Survivors to join our team. This role is ideal for a dedicated and compassionate nurse who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of victims of sexual assault.
As a Forensic Care Specialist for Trauma Survivors, you will be responsible for providing expert care to patients who have experienced sexual violence. Your primary goal will be to ensure that each patient receives the highest quality care in a safe and compassionate environment.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will have a current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and must hold a certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with advocates from local rape crisis centers and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to victims of sexual assault within a designated shift, based on the nursing process and within the role/scope of practice.
- Implement appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrate the appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.
- Provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care, including assessment, expected outcomes, nursing interventions, and evaluation, within an interdisciplinary team approach.
- Accept accountability and use independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated.
- Use standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery and base decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care, and/or research findings.
Requirements
- Current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date
- Must hold a certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) or obtain within 60 days of hire
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred
- Associates of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma, currently enrolled in a BSN program and BSN completed within 5 years of hire preferred
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated salary for this role is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
This is a full-time position, requiring 24 hours of call per month, with 8 of those hours occurring on weekends. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with others, protract or irregular hours, and work around biohazards, infectious diseases, and deceased individuals.
