Position Overview

The Weapons Engineering Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory plays a crucial role in the integration of the stockpile stewardship program along with weapons engineering and testing, contributing significantly to the Laboratory's vital mission.

We are seeking recent graduates for a postgraduate engineering internship in various specialized fields to join our team and make meaningful contributions to national security.

This paid internship offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of seasoned professionals in the field, facilitating their academic and career aspirations.

The postgraduate internship is designed to help recent graduates prepare for future employment or further studies, with appointments limited to a maximum of two years. Selected interns will benefit from a wide range of professional development and networking opportunities provided by the Lab's Student Programs Office.

Eligible candidates will be included in a candidate pool that hiring managers utilize to fill internship roles as required. A single application allows eligible candidates to be considered for various internships across the Directorate. Selections for this position will be finalized at a later time.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation: Candidates must have graduated from an accredited post-secondary institution and obtained an undergraduate degree within three academic years prior to their date of hire.
  • Enrollment: Candidates must not be enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Cumulative GPA: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale is required, with candidates having a GPA of 3.4 or higher being more competitive.

Application Process: A complete application must include the following documents:

  • Cover Letter: Should clearly express interest in the Weapons Engineering Directorate and outline relevant academic and work experiences, skills, and abilities.
  • Resume: Must detail dates for all related experiences.
  • Current Transcript: A complete transcript showing all grades up to the time of application is required; unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will be more competitive if they possess:
