About the Role

Community Options is seeking a skilled Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team in providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Behavioral Support Specialist, you will be responsible for using best practices and technology to teach individuals the skills needed to live independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and interact with individuals to understand their needs and develop personalized support plans.
  • Create prevention plans and support plans to address specific challenges and goals.
  • Complete functional assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for success.
  • Train staff on the implementation of support plans to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare progress reports for individual's immediate support group to keep them informed of progress and challenges.
  • Serve as an active member of each person's Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT), contributing to Individual Habilitation Plan development and ensuring a comprehensive approach to support.
  • Attend staff meetings for various locations to stay informed and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Employees must cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree preferred, plus one year of experience in developing behavior support plans and teaching staff to implement plans.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines.
  • Understanding and commitment to community-based supports for persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local regulatory agency operations.
  • Experience with problem-solving against multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving supports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Working Conditions

  • May be required to be on-call in cooperation with other management staff.
  • Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion may be required.
  • May be required to transport individuals utilizing own vehicle or company-provided vehicles.
  • May be required to lift or move 25+ pounds.
  • May assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory individuals.
  • May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases.
