Behavioral Support Specialist

About the Role
Community Options is seeking a skilled Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team in Moorestown, NJ. As a key member of our support team, you will work closely with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them acquire the skills needed to live independently.
Responsibilities
- Observe and interact with individuals to understand their needs and develop personalized support plans
- Create prevention plans and support plans to promote independence and well-being
- Complete functional assessments to identify areas for improvement
- Train staff on implementation of plans to ensure consistency and quality
- Prepare progress reports for individual's immediate support group
- Serve as an active member of each person's Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT), contributing to Individual Habilitation Plan development
- Attend staff meetings for various locations to stay informed and collaborate with colleagues
- Employees must cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
- Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree preferred, plus one year of experience in developing behavior support plans and teaching staff to implement plans
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines
- Understanding and commitment to community-based supports for persons with disabilities
- Knowledge and understanding of local regulatory agency operations
- Experience with problem-solving against multiple priorities
- Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving supports
- Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations
- Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
Working Conditions
- May be required to be on-call in cooperation with other management staff
- Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion may be required
- May be required to transport individuals utilizing own vehicle or company-provided vehicles
- May be required to lift or move 25+ pounds
- May assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory individuals
- May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases
