About the Role

Community Options is seeking a skilled Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team in Moorestown, NJ. As a key member of our team, you will provide support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them acquire the skills needed to live independently.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and interact with individuals to understand their needs and develop personalized support plans.
  • Create prevention plans and support plans to promote the well-being and safety of our clients.
  • Complete functional assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for growth.
  • Train staff on the implementation of support plans, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Prepare progress reports for our clients' support groups, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to contribute to Individual Habilitation Plan development.
  • Attend staff meetings for various locations to stay informed and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Cooperate with our team and department staff in any inspections, inquiries, or investigations.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree preferred, with at least one year of experience in developing behavior support plans and teaching staff to implement plans.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines.
  • Understanding and commitment to community-based supports for persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local regulatory agency operations.
  • Experience with problem-solving against multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving supports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Working Conditions

  • May be required to be on-call in cooperation with other management staff.
  • Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion may be required.
  • May be required to transport individuals utilizing own vehicle or company-provided vehicles.
  • May be required to lift or move 25+ pounds.
  • May assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory individuals.
  • May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases.
