Position Summary

Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) encompasses an expansive 85-acre public space along the Brooklyn waterfront. Our mission is to connect individuals, nature, and the waterfront through inclusive, innovative, and sustainable management and design practices. We envision contributing to a healthier, more livable urban environment.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Facilities, the Facilities Technician will collaborate with team members to ensure the effective maintenance and repair of the park's diverse systems, aligned with our organizational mission, values, and standards.

This role commences on a temporary basis with the potential for transition to a regular full-time position after a specified period of employment. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of additional hours during extreme weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular work hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Evening or weekend work is not typically required, except during severe weather events.

  • Support the ongoing operation and preventive maintenance of all systems and assets managed by Brooklyn Bridge Park.
  • Respond to emergencies affecting various park elements, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and irrigation systems.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized tasks, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Engage in seasonal maintenance activities, such as snow removal and water system winterization.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain an adequate inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Complete daily work orders, document progress through regular reporting, and execute tasks efficiently.
  • Provide excellent customer service to park visitors by answering inquiries and sharing park information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team, managing multiple projects and tasks effectively.

  • Prior experience in facility maintenance or a park environment is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
