Key Responsibilities of Aviation Ground Support Specialists
  • Fuel and defuel a variety of aircraft including general aviation, charter, cargo, military, and commercial carriers
  • Operate fuel trucks, including driving and utilizing pumping equipment, hose reels, and safety devices, as well as loading fuel from the fuel farm
  • Maintain and operate aviation ground service vehicles and fuel farms in line with all safety protocols
  • Handle all ground vehicle equipment, such as tugs, GPU, belt loaders, air starts, lavatory services, tow bars, bag carts, deicing units, forklifts, and more
  • Utilize deicing vehicles and apply Type I and Type IV deice and anti-icing fluids following established procedures
  • Exhibit proficiency in all aspects of ground handling for corporate and private aircraft, including baggage and cargo handling, lavatory and portable water services, and pushback operations
  • Perform additional tasks such as facility maintenance, snow removal, and cleaning duties as needed
  • Ensure personal safety and the proper care of all assigned equipment
Qualifications for Aviation Ground Support Specialists
  • Possess essential physical and mental skills, including interpersonal communication, memory, attention to detail, ability to follow directions, and organizational skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Previous experience in aircraft fueling and ground handling operations is preferred
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory
  • Availability to work any shift, seven days a week, throughout the year
While performing job duties, employees are regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for handling, reach with arms, talk, and hear. Frequent activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and smelling. Occasionally, employees may need to sit and must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
