Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team at Lutheran Social Services of WI and Upper MI. As a key member of our Financial Services Team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional financial management services to our program directors, supervisors, managers, and team leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making across the organization.
  • Assist in the recording of financial transactions and preparation of financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Design and implement internal control procedures to ensure proper transaction recording and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of our accounting software, financial reporting, and general ledger structure.
  • Initiate and oversee various day-to-day banking transactions, including reconciliations and account maintenance.
  • Prepare and document general ledger entries, including proper support and analysis.
  • Complete complex account reconciliations independently and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly expense-based invoices and supporting documentation for funders of various programs.
  • Compile and prepare financial data, analysis, and reports using various software and financial applications.
  • Assist in the preparation for annual financial and single audits, including preparation of schedules and reports.
  • Develop and maintain standardized policies and procedures to support accounting practices within the general ledger.
  • May be responsible for a smaller HUD or tax credit project, including all accounting processes and procedures, reporting, and may include leading an audit with an external firm.
  • Support in the preparation of annual budgets as needed.
  • Initiate, establish, and maintain effective internal and external working relationships, including partnering with programs and project personnel by providing financial support and responding to inquiries.
  • Stay abreast of and be actively engaged in implementation of employee training for changing business requirements, including documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Be a resource to finance team members and facilitate project assignments.
  • Maintain high ethical standards in financial reporting and communicate concisely and effectively.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of financial accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Technical skills in financial data record keeping, financial reporting, and use of business software tools.
  • High level of customer satisfaction and co-worker respect.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks at a time and attention to detail.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
Work Environment

The incumbent of this position works in a hybrid environment, with the ability to work from home for a substantial portion of work time. However, there may be times when it is required to be in the office for team support and meetings, as well as during peak work times. The incumbent will also be exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling on company business.
