Recreation Division Director

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Division Director to lead our team in providing exceptional recreation programs and services to the community. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance the quality of life for our residents.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and manage all functions within the Recreation Division, including athletics, aquatics, events, facility management, and recreation programming.
- Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel, providing regular performance feedback and implementing corrective action as needed.
- Develop and implement internal standard operational guidelines, ensuring compliance with established policies.
- Serve as the liaison for the Recreation Division with other departments and outside agencies, attending and participating in conferences, meetings, and committees as necessary.
- Coordinate with the school district, volunteers, and special interest groups to plan, organize, and implement special events and programs.
- Collect and analyze statistical and fiscal data, preparing and submitting daily, monthly, and annual reports.
- Meet with recreational managers to determine needs, discuss obstacles, and assist in solutions.
- Follow trends and develop new programming ideas to attract community interest and best utilize facilities.
- Respond to and resolve complex citizen inquiries and complaints, interpreting City policy for community groups, commissions, advisory boards, and citizens.
- Evaluate fee-based programs and activities to generate sufficient revenue, providing recommendations to leadership.
- Analyze operations to evaluate performance and staff in meeting objectives, identifying areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
- Process purchase orders, review and approve bids, manage asset and operational data, and oversee inventory and property management.
- Provide leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range strategic goals for staff, programs, and facilities, planning, gathering, interpreting, and preparing data for studies, reports, and recommendations.
- Manage and evaluate the staff and functions of the division, planning, prioritizing, and assigning tasks and projects, instructing and training staff, monitoring work, developing staff skills, and evaluating performance.
- Analyze and manage the budget within the assigned division, managing fiscal activities related to programs, maintaining related financial records, and making recommendations that impact the division budget.
- Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing Department to respond to local media requests.
- Ensure City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines are followed.
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or a related field.
- Four years of experience in operating recreational facilities and/or administering athletic, aquatic, events, or recreation programming.
- Three years in a managerial position.
- Valid driver's license.
- Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP).
- Active membership in local, state-wide, or national athletic or parks and recreation associations within 6 months of hire date.
- CPO or AFO certification within 6 months of hire date.
- CPR/AED certification or able to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
