Job Summary

Volt is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing low and medium voltage power systems and serving as the primary technical interface for the equipment assigned to you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, program, troubleshoot, and commission electrical systems and equipment as needed to support Volt's products and customer goals.
  • Create detailed drawing packages for the manufacturing of custom switchgear and switchboards in accordance with industry standards.
  • Provide technical support to production during product construction and testing, answering any technical inquiries as needed.
  • Collaborate with mechanical designers to layout and create rough front views and plan views of switchgear and switchboards.
  • Select components and create detailed bills of materials for Volt's products.
  • Develop sequence of operation documents to define automatic system functionality.
  • Lead projects from design conception through manufacturing and project completion.
  • Support sales and project management teams in answering customer questions related to design.
  • Work on large-scale projects with budgets ranging from $300,000 to $40 million.
  • Complete short field assignments for design consultation, typically lasting less than 3 days and not exceeding 10% of total time.
Requirements
  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering principles and theories as they apply to the power industry and switchgear.
  • Experience in utilizing AutoCAD for electrical design.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical layout and considerations.
  • Project/task management skills and ability to carry out a plan to completion.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, other technical resources, and management.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to lead small teams of people to achieve larger tasks.
  • Willingness to work with less experienced engineers for mentoring and training.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Organization skills.
  • Pride in workmanship.

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a related field.
  • Previous field service experience, knowledge, and understanding are highly valued.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
  • Significant experience with AutoCAD drafting software.
  • Industrial automation experience is a significant plus.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000 per year. The pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc. Since this is a direct hire role, benefits will be provided by the employer.
