POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health and Human Development is in search of a dedicated and proactive Academic Support Specialist to enhance the Martha A. Adams Academic Advising Center. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of the Kinesiology Academic Advising team, supporting the increasing number of undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Kinesiology and fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable advising environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver academic guidance to undergraduate students enrolled in or considering majors or minors in Kinesiology at University Park.
  • Interpret university policies and procedures for students and faculty.
  • Assist students in course selection utilizing university academic planning tools, scheduling, and long-term degree completion strategies.
  • Help resolve academic challenges and facilitate professional referrals.
  • Maintain confidential advising records and ensure the privacy of student information.
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress.
  • Provide career-related information to students, helping them identify educational resources and engage with prospective students and their families.

The successful candidate will represent the department and college in university-sponsored recruitment and retention activities, including orientation programs and informational events. This role will also support various projects aimed at enhancing undergraduate student success and may involve participation in hiring, evaluation, and training of staff, serving as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, and university stakeholders.

Qualifications:

This position may be filled at either the Intermediate Professional or Advanced Professional level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. A Master's Degree or higher is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for the Intermediate Professional level. Additional qualifications are necessary for higher levels. Familiarity with LionPath, Starfish, Canvas, Office 365 applications, Adobe, Word, and Excel is preferred.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
