Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Treasurer, the Risk and Credit Manager will contribute to the reduction of financial and operational exposure through the performance of comprehensive risk assessment programs and the monitoring of the adequacy of internal and external controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate job expectations and responsibilities, while supervising, disciplining, managing and overseeing employees and work systems
  • Support problem resolution and decision making
  • Review the risk management forecast model and assumptions used
  • Propose new methodologies to ensure accuracy of forecasted sales volumes
  • Review data accuracy, including customer demand and supply in risk management models
  • Oversee tracking and recording of all derivatives in Spark's risk management system and coordinate among departments for compliance of information flow
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure volumetric data coming out of Spark's customer information systems are accurate and reliable
  • Ensure accuracy of risk management system data, daily checks of positions are run, and changes are captured through the risk management models
  • Analyze and report positions, P&L and mark-to-market
  • Ensure Finance receives reports on Spark's derivative position, P&L, and credit exposure
  • Validate all data coming through Risk with Supply, Marketing, Sales, and Finance. Ensure all reports and systems tie and all controls are in place
  • Verify report exceptions to risk policies and operational compliance
  • Manage in-bound and out-bound confirmations with Counterparties
  • Manage daily curve extract and upload process for both power and gas
  • Establish and maintain adequate wholesale trading lines to support wholesale book
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate LCs and PTGTYs around collateral requirements for retail and wholesale commitments
  • Update contact information for all product trading partners or counterparties
  • Update and maintain current company financial, market and operational data
  • Reviewing, understanding, and analyzing collected data including financial statements using credit evaluation techniques
  • Analyzing counterparty profiles for assessing/understanding changes in financial statements and associated implications
  • Recommending appropriate actions (approval, decline, credit support etc) based on credit analysis
  • Reviewing and monitoring exposure to counterparties and setting/recommending credit allowances and limits
  • Assist in administration of online trading platforms and submission of limit request though banking relations
  • Providing counterparty credit exposure reporting to all levels of management
  • Assisting contract, guaranty and letter of credit review and negotiation for trading partners or counterparties
  • Participating in collection negotiations, dispute resolution and settlements with counterparties
  • Ensure compliance with all credit policies and procedures
  • Provide support or back-up to the Treasurer
  • Identify and recommend actions to address any known internal control problems/issues/concerns
  • Provide ad hoc reporting as required
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, accounting or related field
  • 8-10 years relevant work experience preferred
  • Experience including finance, accounting, trading, risk management, forecasting, and statistics
  • FIS Capital Markets (Aligne) risk management software experience a plus
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of financial statements and financial statement analysis
  • Credit experience with an energy marketing or trading company (or related business)
  • Natural gas and/or electric industry experience
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organization and documentation skills
  • Excellent Excel skills and system database proficiency
  • Possess the following competencies: adaptability/flexibility, communications, decision making/judgment, interpersonal skills, personal organization, problem solving/analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure and make informed decisions
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
