Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Faculty member to teach in our Legal Studies Department at Stevenson University. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person courses, developing curriculum, and assessing student performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach in-person courses in the Legal Studies Department, including time spent in the classroom, laboratory, or hybrid or online courses and in immediate preparation for them.
  • Maintain competence in subjects being taught, prepare teaching materials, and confer with students on course materials.
  • Direct individual and group studies, review written examinations and papers, evaluate presentations and projects, and provide academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
  • Write syllabi, read and respond to emails, grade course work within a time frame that enables the student to incorporate feedback on their next assignment, and timely submit mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested.
  • Complete training or professional development as required by the University, and demonstrate collegiality, professional and ethical conduct, and academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members.
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, online or hybrid classes, and meeting classes for the full class time during the scheduled dates and times is expected.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school and admission to the Maryland Bar or a master's degree in a law-related field.
  • A strong commitment to quality teaching, and experience teaching college or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of law, legal studies, or paralegal studies, and demonstrated teaching ability in law, legal studies, or paralegal studies.
  • Ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities, and excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that will help graduate and/or undergraduate students to develop professionally, intellectually, and socially, and ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and practice inclusive pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to student achievement, and ability to assess student performance and learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook, and familiarity with educational assessment practices.
  • Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community, and experience working with Blackboard or a similar learning management system.
  • Well-developed organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines, and ability to work effectively with colleagues.
  • Ability to travel between campuses, and ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements

The position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time. Close visual acuity is also required.

Essential Functions
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 18 contact hours per academic year (August through May), with no more than 9 contact hours taught in an individual semester.
