Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a meticulous and reliable Laboratory Technician to contribute to our Consultants team. The selected candidate will be tasked with sampling, processing, and evaluating materials according to established protocols and standards, ensuring accurate documentation of testing outcomes. The methodologies employed include those set forth by the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and other relevant organizations.

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting physical, index, and chemical testing of construction materials, including:
    • Concrete and Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) testing (preparation and compression of concrete cylinders, specialty concrete assessments, etc.)
    • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) evaluations (gradations, asphalt content, density, etc.)
    • Soil testing (moisture/density, Atterberg Limits, gradations, strength assessments, etc.)
    • Aggregate evaluations (gradation, specific gravity, unit weight, etc.)
  • Accurately documenting hours worked and assisting with client billing processes.
  • Performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensuring a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Maintaining relevant certifications and regularly reviewing applicable testing methods.
  • Meeting deadlines and managing priorities in accordance with established protocols.
  • Demonstrating safe practices in the use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Fostering effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Participating in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and Behavior-Based Safety Programs, exemplifying our safety standards.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A High School diploma, G.E.D., or at least one current relevant industry certification (e.g., ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT certifications).
  • A valid driver's license and compliance with the firm's auto insurability criteria.

Additional certifications in the aforementioned areas are preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to comprehend procedures, specifications, and reports, are essential. A foundational knowledge of basic mathematics and science is necessary for analyzing laboratory results.

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and communicate effectively. Regular lifting and moving of up to 70 pounds may be required, along with the daily use of hands for various tasks. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. The work environment may involve exposure to heavy equipment, hazardous materials, noise, dust, and other elements, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of protective equipment.

This role may require flexible hours and potential travel to various project locations.
