Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a meticulous and reliable Laboratory Technician to support our Consultants team. The selected candidate will be tasked with sampling, processing, and evaluating materials in line with established protocols and specifications, ensuring accurate documentation of testing outcomes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting physical, index, and chemical testing of construction materials, including:
    • Concrete and Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) testing (preparation and compression of concrete cylinders, specialty concrete evaluations, etc.)
    • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing (gradations, asphalt content, density, etc.)
    • Soil testing (moisture density, Atterberg Limits, gradations, strength assessments, etc.)
    • Aggregate testing (gradation, specific gravity, unit weight, etc.)
  • Accurately documenting hours worked and assisting in client billing processes.
  • Performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensuring a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Maintaining relevant certifications and regularly reviewing applicable testing methods.
  • Meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrating safe practices in the use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Fostering effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participating in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and Behavior-Based Safety Programs, exemplifying our safety standards.
  • Executing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A High School diploma, G.E.D., or at least one current relevant industry certification (e.g., ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT certifications, etc.) is required.
  • A valid driver's license within the applicable jurisdiction is necessary to meet the firm's auto insurability criteria.

Additional certifications in any of the aforementioned areas are preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to comprehend procedures, specifications, and reports. A foundational knowledge of basic mathematics and science is necessary for analyzing laboratory results.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and communicate. The role frequently requires lifting and/or moving up to 70 pounds, including sample containers and equipment. Daily tasks necessitate the use of hands and reaching. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus. The work environment may involve exposure to heavy equipment on construction sites, hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, and other elements, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of appropriate protective gear. Regular use of laboratory equipment and tools is expected, requiring dexterity for handling delicate instruments. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.

This position may involve irregular hours, and flexibility to accommodate client needs is essential. Out-of-town travel may be required for various assignments.
