Role Summary

In this role, you will operate under the guidance of department leadership, performing blood collection through phlebotomy and apheresis techniques. You will engage with donors and coordinators, ensuring a superior donation experience through exceptional customer service. Your commitment to quality service is paramount, and you will work collaboratively as a vital member of our team. Additionally, you will be responsible for safely driving the mobile collection vehicle and transporting staff efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate mobile blood collection vehicles with a valid CDL, adhering to all DOT regulations while ensuring timely arrival at donation sites.
  • Understand and comply with all regulatory and compliance standards.

  • Provide excellent customer service to donors, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to distressed donors with empathy.
  • Address donor inquiries and concerns promptly, escalating issues to leadership when necessary.
  • Prepare collection sites, including setup of technology systems and quality control measures.
  • Conduct donor screenings, including health histories and mini-physical assessments.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures and manage automation processes (Alyx and/or Trima), addressing any reactions accordingly.
  • Encourage donor participation in automation processes.
  • Prepare and package blood units for transport as needed.
  • Monitor donors for any reactions, providing care and assistance as required.
  • Facilitate post-reaction care at mobile drives, coordinating with host organizations as necessary.
  • Schedule future donation appointments for donors.
  • Travel to various local collection sites based on operational needs.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ensure a safe environment for both donors and staff.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Maintain product integrity and accurate donor identification.
  • Complete departmental records and maintain organizational standards.
  • Participate in the validation of new processes or equipment as needed.
  • Review daily work for accuracy and address unexpected results appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • 1-3 years of relevant customer-facing experience preferred.
  • Typically requires less than 1 year of job-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Valid driver's license with prior driving experience required.
  • Valid CDL with air brakes endorsement (B) required.
  • Familiarity with standardized work routines and equipment typically acquired through on-the-job training.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Basic mathematical skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure productive workflow.
  • Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Ceridian, Hemasphere, Oracle, and HemaTerra is required.
