Job Summary:

As a Phlebotomist at CSL Plasma, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. Your primary responsibility will be to perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the highest quality of plasma collection.

Responsibilities:

• Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, ensuring compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
• Evaluate vein performance of donors to identify potential issues and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Ensure the donation process is efficient and make adjustments as needed to provide a positive experience for donors.
• Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information.
• Maintain alertness to any donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff as needed.
• Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
• Perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in SOPs.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, remove and/or replace equipment from service, and monitor donor flow on the donor floor to ensure continuous turnover.
• Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing and ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• For Centers located in CA, persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
