Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Safety Officer II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Safety Officer II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents receiving long-term care in Texas by assessing facilities' compliance with state and federal life safety code requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct surveys of facilities to ensure compliance with federal and state life safety laws, regulations, and interpretations.
  • Complete inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepare professionally written reports using HHSC's required principles of documentation.
  • Verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations and conduct entrance and exit conferences with facility staff.
  • Provide facilities with professional knowledge of National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code requirements and applicable local, state, and federal standards to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with agency staff conducting surveys of facilities for certification in the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Perform desk reviews and reviews plans of correction to ensure compliance.
  • Answer questions from providers in person and over the phone.
Requirements:
  • Ability to apply state and federal rules and regulations to detailed inspections of long-term care facilities.
  • Ability to regularly climb ladders and inspect attic spaces that may be hot or cramped.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions.
