Registered Dietitian Specialist

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for managing the nutritional care of patients, including inpatients, residents, and outpatients. This role involves conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments and ensuring the implementation of physician-directed therapeutic diets and supplements. The Clinical Dietitian tailors individual and group nutrition interventions based on a thorough evaluation of the patient and their support system, taking into account cultural, ethnic, and personal preferences. The nutrition care plan is continuously monitored and adjusted through a collaborative interdisciplinary approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits the expertise and competencies necessary to deliver age-appropriate care to patients.
- Conducts nutrition assessments and follow-ups for patients identified with heightened nutritional risks, in alignment with established policies and best practices. Records assessments, nutritional goals, care plans, and any changes in patient status in the Electronic Health Record.
- Implements the nutrition care process, which includes performing assessments, assigning nutrition diagnoses, executing interventions, and providing ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
- Creates and executes personalized nutrition intervention plans that align with the medical objectives of the patient.
- Advises on the necessity for transitional feeding methods (from enteral to oral intake and vice versa) and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to determine the appropriate delivery of nutrition therapies and food.
- Educates patients and their families regarding nutritional requirements as needed.
- Acts as a resource for medical staff and allied health professionals concerning nutritional status and needs.
- Follows organizational policies and procedures, including confidentiality and patient rights as outlined in the facility's guidelines.
- Works alongside the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care with a focus on a patient-centered approach.
- Completes annual requirements for Clinical Dietitian I within the first year of employment as per the Registered Dietitian Clinical Ladder Portfolio Checklist. Performs additional tasks as assigned.
- Collaborates with Culinary Staff to ensure the accuracy of modified diets and address any patient concerns.
- Engages in the Rogers Operating Systems (ROS) program and adheres to Standard Workflow protocols.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agency guidelines.
- Participates in weekend/on-call and holiday rotation as required.
Education and Training:
- Master's degree in Dietetics or a bachelor's degree if licensed prior to 2024.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical environment.
- Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited supervised practice program (Dietetic internship).
- Successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians.
- Maintains registration through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Obtains and maintains state certification (up to 90 days post-hire allowed for certification).
- Familiarity with Joint Commission and other regulatory compliance regulations.
- Formal training in crisis prevention and intervention is required within sixty (60) days of hire, with annual recertification.
- Dietitians in community-based Residential Facilities (CBRF) or Residential Care Centers (RCC) must complete first aid, fire safety, and standard precautions training within ninety (90) days of hire.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of hire, with annual re-certification.
