The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for managing the nutritional care of patients, including inpatients, residents, and outpatients. This role involves conducting comprehensive nutritional evaluations and overseeing the implementation of physician-directed therapeutic diets and nutritional supplements. The Clinical Dietitian delivers personalized and group nutrition strategies tailored to the unique cultural, ethnic, and personal preferences of each individual, ensuring that the nutrition care plan is regularly assessed and updated through a collaborative interdisciplinary approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits the necessary knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for all patients.
  • Conducts thorough nutrition assessments and follow-ups for patients identified with heightened nutritional risks, in line with established policies and best practices. Records evaluations, nutritional objectives, and any changes in patient status in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Implements the nutrition care process by performing assessments, assigning nutrition diagnoses, executing interventions, and ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of nutrition.
  • Creates and executes a tailored nutritional intervention plan that aligns with the medical goals and objectives of the patient.
  • Advises on the necessity for transitional feeding methods (from enteral to oral intake and vice versa) and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to determine the best practices for administering nutrition therapies and food.
  • Provides education to patients and their families regarding nutritional requirements as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for medical personnel and allied health staff concerning nutritional status and needs.
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to confidentiality and patient rights.
  • Works alongside the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care with a focus on patient-centered approaches.
  • Completes annual requirements for Clinical Dietitian I within the designated timeframe as per the Registered Dietitian Clinical Ladder Portfolio Checklist.
  • Collaborates with Culinary Staff to guarantee accuracy in modified diets and address any patient concerns.
  • Engages in the Rogers Operating Systems (ROS) program and adheres to Standard Workflow.
  • Demonstrates understanding and compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Participates in weekend/on-call and holiday rotation as required.
Additional Qualifications:

Education and Training:
  • Master's degree in Dietetics or a bachelor's degree if licensed prior to 2024.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical environment.
  • Completion of an ACEND accredited supervised practice program (Dietetic internship).
  • Successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians.
  • Ongoing registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • State certification must be obtained and maintained (up to 90 days post-hire allowed for certification).
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission and other regulatory compliance regulations.
  • Formal training in crisis prevention and intervention is required within sixty (60) days of hire, with annual recertification.
  • Dietitians in community-based Residential Facilities (CBRF) or Residential Care Centers (RCC) must complete first aid, fire safety, and standard precautions training within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of hire, with annual re-certification.
