Job Summary

This role involves providing high-quality patient care, including rooming patients, reviewing patient history, and assessing health status. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing processes consistent with nursing standards, including patient education and care planning.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, and have a strong commitment to patient-centered care. This role requires a high level of autonomy, flexibility, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Follows the ten medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  2. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
  4. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  5. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy and specific to unit age-specific populations.
  6. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques, including non-pharmacological techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  7. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  8. Knowledge of Infection Control, TB, Blood-borne Pathogens and Hazardous Waste plans.
  9. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluations evaluating the effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  10. Demonstrates the ability to perform treatments and provide services within the scope of practice.
  11. Communicates appropriately and clearly with all health care team members.
  12. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  13. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  14. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
  15. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses the psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  16. Functions as liaison between the patient/family, physicians, other healthcare providers and administration.
  17. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  18. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  19. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  20. Demonstrates the ability to use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), to gather data and input quality information for EMR reporting measurements.
  21. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  22. Assists in successful implementation of programs to improve coding and reimbursement for office-specific procedures.
  23. Assists the physician(s), physician assistant(s), and Nurse Practitioners in addressing hospital and clinic related issues, serves as liaison and representative of Big Horn Health Network in resolving problems and participates on committees as appropriate.
  24. Ability to effectively coordinate care in a complex practice model with a highly interactive multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals with competing demands on available resources which must balance to create patient-centered care.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
  26. Keeps fiscally responsible of inventory and competently order supplies, including dept specific supplies.
  27. Assists in identifying referring physicians and assuring to the extent possible that strong relationships are developed and preserved.
Position Qualifications

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Current Wyoming license as a Registered Nurse without restrictions.
  • Current BLS certification, required.
  • A minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferred.
  • Current ACLS certification, preferred.
  • Attend initial de-escalation training, preferred.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Sound knowledge of computers & a proficient level of skill.
  • Delegation, prioritization and organizational skills.

Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.

Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
