The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) is a nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to advancing national security through collaboration among government, industry, and academia. With over 1,700 corporate members and 65,000 individual members, NDIA serves as a vital platform for dialogue and solutions in the defense sector.

For more than a century, NDIA has been instrumental in fostering partnerships that address the defense and national security needs of our nation.

Through the Strategy & Policy Team, NDIA provides essential education on legislative and regulatory matters impacting the defense industrial base.

Additionally, NDIA actively engages in various industry coalitions to unify the defense and government contracting communities on significant issues.

POSITION SUMMARY:


In this role, reporting to the Senior Director for Strategy & Policy, the Speech Writer will spearhead the development and management of speeches and presentations for NDIA's Executive Team, which includes the CEO, President, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Policy, and the Chief Operating Officer.

This position will also be responsible for creating and managing communication content for the Strategy & Policy Team, including contributions to NDIA's website and social media platforms, in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Team.

The Speech Writer will oversee the drafting of the weekly Policy Digest Newsletter and assist in reviewing and editing materials from the Strategy & Policy Team to ensure grammatical precision and a consistent NDIA voice.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the drafting, preparation, coordination, and editing of speeches and communication materials for NDIA's Executive Team tailored for diverse audiences and occasions. (50%)
  • Generate and update content for the Strategy & Policy webpages for NDIA's public and member-exclusive websites in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Team. (20%)
  • Create weekly content for social media channels to highlight Strategy & Policy initiatives, regulatory submissions, trending issues, and other pertinent policy information. (10%)
  • Manage the drafting of the weekly "Policy Digest Newsletter" in partnership with the Strategy & Policy Team. (10%)
  • Review and edit policy articles for National Defense Magazine, policy reports, white papers, regulatory comments, congressional testimonies, meeting materials, letters, Amicus Briefs, and other policy documents to ensure compliance with NDIA writing standards and consistency in voice. (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years in a relevant role, including internship experience, volunteer experience, or equivalent military service.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, along with sound judgment and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all organizational levels and within a diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Capability to take initiative and work independently on projects from inception to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Strong multitasking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.
