Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Phlebotomy Supervisor to join our team at National Jewish Health. As a Phlebotomy Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing a team of phlebotomists and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in compliance with hospital and laboratory accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop an effective phlebotomy team, providing leadership, guidance, and resources to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Determine staff qualifications and competency, recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, training, orienting, mentoring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and rewarding phlebotomists.
  • Establish and monitor staff and patient safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring the operation of the laboratory is in compliance with safety regulations, lab accreditation, federal regulations, and laboratory standards of operation.
  • Develop, maintain, and track metrics that measure patient wait times, collections team member, and delivery of accurate, high-quality, efficient patient care.
  • Create an environment that ensures phlebotomists are delivering an incredibly positive patient experience with National Jewish Health.
  • Continuously improve workflows and procedures, including how and where patient phlebotomy services are provided, collaborating and partnering with clinical staff to improve operations and the patient experience.
  • Supervise, maintain, and document the operation of the laboratory to ensure compliance with safety regulations, lab accreditation, federal regulations, and laboratory standards of operation.
  • Perform competencies as identified through the departmental competency program, implementing care and services that recognize age-specific needs and issues for the customer served.
  • Monitor use of equipment, reagents/supplies, and inventory to maintain uninterrupted service, managing staff in inventory maintenance procedures.
  • Attend continuing education programs sponsored by National Jewish, manufacturer in-services, and/or professional society programs, utilizing and improving electronic systems used to deliver phlebotomy services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, clinical or healthcare focus preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of Phlebotomy experience is required, 1 year of supervisory experience required.
  • Current CPR certification required, current Phlebotomy Certification preferred (documentation of successful completion of a formal program is preferred).
