Medical Director

The Department of State Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Medical Director to serve as the principal medical resource for the Office of the Chief State Epidemiologist (OCSE) Division. This is a highly responsible position that requires the ability to work in a self-directed atmosphere with minimal guidance and a wide latitude for leadership, initiative, and exercising sound judgement.
Key Responsibilities- Provides extensive guidance to internal and external stakeholders and advises the Chief State Epidemiologist and DSHS Commissioner on issues related to disease treatment, prevention, and control.
- Represents the agency to local, state, and national leaders in disease prevention and control.
- Monitors and maintains current knowledge on disease and medical issues.
- Provides clinical expertise to, and may represent the division as needed on, task forces and advisory committees.
- Provides expert medical, epidemiologic, and other public health consultations regarding diagnostic recommendations, treatments, occurrences, risk factors, modes of transmission, communicability, and appropriate control measures for various diseases.
- Licensed as a Medical Doctor by the State of Texas.
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and coordinate complex activities and projects.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
