About the Role

Volunteers of America Oregon is seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Counselor I to provide relief services in our organization. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality mental health and addiction counseling services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to clients, utilizing evidence-based treatment models.
  • Conduct substance abuse assessments, diagnoses, and make client placement decisions using standardized instruments and criteria.
  • Identify client mental health concerns for referral and further assessment.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for clients in consultation with the client, their family (when appropriate), and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate and timely treatment documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, court reports, assessments, and summaries.
Requirements
  • CADC I certification required at time of hire or within 24 months of registering with MHACBO.
  • Relevant coursework or 1 year experience in counseling, psychology, social work, addictions treatment, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of criminal behavior and at-risk populations.
  • Familiarity with reentry issues facing justice-involved populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Reliable form of transportation.
Work Environment

This is a relief position, working 0-19 hours per week. The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The work environment is a professional office setting with moderate light and temperature.
