Job Summary

Central City Concern is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team. As a critical member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive, intensive residential treatment for individuals struggling with severe substance use disorder. Your expertise will help address all treatment needs, including crisis management, substance use treatment, medication management, physical health treatment, mental health treatment, and accessing appropriate and affordable housing.

This is a direct service position providing person-centered, trauma-informed care to clients experiencing mental health and substance use symptoms. You will have access to mental health billing and service records.

Responsibilities
  • Collect information regarding clients' history through a combination of interviewing, records review, and consultation.
  • Conduct and document substance use disorder & mental health assessments, including mental status exam, ASAM level of care, DSM diagnosis, and clinical formulation.
  • Develop strengths-based treatment plans and collaborative problem-solving with clients.
  • Participate in clinical staff meetings and case conferences with team members to utilize interdisciplinary expertise and facilitate individual service plans for clients.
  • Provide substance use and mental health treatment groups for clients, including addiction as a disease process, recovery, Trauma-Informed Care components, and life skills.
  • Assess, triage, and respond to mental health and substance abuse crises in the most effective, efficient, and safe manner possible.
  • Monitor and ensure the health and safety needs of clients are met.
  • Quickly and accurately assess the needs of individual clients and potential barriers to service.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed treatment modalities to identify stages of change and develop corresponding stage-wise treatment strategies.
  • Maintain client records as required by State, Federal, local, and program standards and funding requirements.
  • Work within scope of training and experience and seek consultation when appropriate.
  • Participate in regular supervision from the Clinical Supervisor, seeking additional supervision whenever necessary.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Attend all mandatory CCC training in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Must meet qualifications for QMHP, CSWA, LPC-A or LPC, LMFT-A or LMFT, LCSW, and CADC-R, at minimum, certification preferred, or the ability to obtain one within 1 year.
  • Experience in mental health and substance use treatment preferred.
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern's drug-free workplace and comply with all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients, and groups.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to establish priorities.
  • Ability to apply principles learned to new situations.
  • Ability to learn new skills.
  • Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude.
  • Knowledge and skills in counseling techniques with individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge and skills in mental health treatment methods.
  • Knowledge and skills in substance use treatment methods.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in an environment where people may be hostile or abusive.
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work courteously and effectively communicate with the general public, clients, medical personnel, corrections personnel, police, and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation methods.
