Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Informatics Specialist III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. This role will involve performing complex health informatics work, data analysis, and data research on Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR) and Electronic Initial Case Reporting (eICR) to the Texas National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) Based System (NBS).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze ELR and eICR data using standard statistical tools and methods to identify data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies.
  • Compile and query ELR and eICR data to provide results and monitor data quality to ensure valid test results data is submitted.
  • Provide guidance to others and work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Conduct data integration, including matching and merging records across complex data sources.
  • Perform onboarding activities, including screening, validation, and training for eligible hospitals and laboratories seeking to report to local and regional health departments via Texas NEDSS.
  • Consult with internal program areas and external customers to identify user needs and prepare technical reports to present and interpret data.
  • Assist in defining, developing, and implementing data standards for accurate electronic data submission.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of reportable disease/health-related information systems and experience with SQL, HL7 messaging, and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of statistics and analyzing data sets, including running queries, report writing, and presenting findings.
  • Knowledge of data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Ability to compile, review, and analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide guidance to others.
Working Conditions:

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives.
