We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Graduate Student Instructor to join our team in the Program in the Environment at the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading discussion sections, providing technical support to guest lecturers, attending weekly planning meetings with the professor leading the course, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead discussion sections
  • Provide technical support to guest lecturers
  • Attend weekly planning meetings with professor leading the course
  • Read assigned materials
  • Attend all lectures
  • Keep attendance records
  • Grade papers and keep records of topics students write on
  • Develop activities for students to do in discussion sessions
  • Hold office hours
  • Help maintain course Canvas site

Qualifications:

  • Prior completion of environmental justice, urban planning, or sociology coursework
  • Knowledge of or participation in DEIJ activities on or off campus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of organizational change and development
  • Familiarity with extracting information from the Census; familiarity with TRI databases
  • Familiarity/comfort with assisting with technology in the classroom

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a GSI
  • Teaching/facilitation experience in a related environmental field

Work Mode:
