To better serve the global auto industry EV trend in United States, we are now hiring an Environmental Engineer, for a new mega-site manufacturing project in Michigan. We are looking for a talented and experienced Environmental Engineer to join our team. They must be highly motivated and experienced. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental regulations, as well as experience in developing and implementing environmental management. The Environmental Engineer will be required to keep up with the project demands as the various construction, launch and operation milestones are completed. Oversight activities may require alternative work schedules to support facility construction and commissioning activities. Also, this role will require excellent management skills, ability to work well under pressure, and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
Responsibilities
General
- Ensure facility environmental compliance and implementing the highest standards of environmental stewardship, as well as activities regarding Land Construction, and Field Environmental protection Resources to monitor and ensure environmental compliance and contractor safety during all phases of facility construction.
- Provide environmental guidance to the manufacturing engineering launch team; develop and implement the CATL Environmental Operating System and working with facility personnel and Federal, State, and local agencies to comply with environmental requirements.
Site Clearing & Construction Activities
- Partner with the CATL Project Manager(s) in the oversite of the on-site activities to ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements and facility permits.
- Coordinate appropriate sampling, oversite, and reporting requirements for environmental permits, including construction stormwater, wastewater, and air permits.
- Oversee proper disposal of all construction and equipment commissioning-related wastes through an approved Total Waste Management (TWM) supplier. Maintain all appropriate records and complete agency reports as needed.
- Appropriately manage any spill or release incidents, including required notifications, to minimize the impact on the environment and potential liability to CATL.
- Provide support and oversite into the completion of facilities equipment commissioning.
Site Specific Launch Support Activities
- Provide environmental support and guidance to manufacturing engineering design team.
- Build a highly effective and competent environmental support team.
- Design, implement, and maintain Environmental Operating System.
- Support implementation of Job Plans specific to environmental requirements and the Environmental Operating System.
- Create, implement, and revise environmental management procedures.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Total Waste Management (TWM) program to ensure legal compliance for all waste disposal with an emphasis on waste elimination, recycling, and zero waste to landfill principles.
- Design, implement and support a CATL Material Management System (MMS) based on the CATL Material Management System.
- Support the development and implementation of the Training Management System specific to Environmental Awareness and Compliance.
- Establish CATL environmental sustainability goals, annual targets, and action plans.
- Support cell discharge room launch and equipment installation including operator training and development of waste management procedures.
Production Operation Activities
- Provide day-to-day technical and regulatory support for all environmental media/operational subjects (air, water, wastewater, waste tanks, materials, ISO 14001, permitting, regulatory communications, testing, plant audits, spill response, decommissioning, remediation, etc.).
- Develop accurate and complete correspondence (reports, permit applications, etc.) to support facility/manufacturing environmental compliance.
- Effectively use standard procedures and best practices to ensure facility/manufacturing environmental compliance.
- Support facility and product programs through necessary permit actions, capacity planning studies, and environmental project funding requests.
- Track progress and spending on environmental capital and expense projects to ensure action items are completed on time and within budget.
- Support achievement of the CATL business plan and sustainability objectives and targets.
- Monitor and regularly report on environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage Total Waste Management activities ensuring waste is managed, stored, and disposed of according to regulatory and corporate environmental requirements.
- Manage the cell discharge operations and personnel.
- Provide required environmental awareness and compliance training to plant employees.
- Build strong, productive working relationships with HSE professionals and facility team.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable national, regional, and local environmental requirements.
- Represent CATL’s interests in environmental matters through interaction with external entities (local, regional, and national regulatory agencies, community groups, trade, and professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent
- Graduate/Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent preferred
- Functional knowledge and experience with environmental regulations
- Five or more years working in a manufacturing facility
- Strong interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
