Originating from Memphis, Tennessee – Now Expanding Nationwide

Founded over 60 years ago by a dedicated husband-and-wife duo, Gus's World-Famous Chicken began as a humble local tavern in Mason, TN. They eventually established a standalone restaurant, which was passed down to their son, Gus. The reputation for their delicious fried chicken quickly spread, distinguishing it from Nashville hot chicken; Gus's specializes in southern spicy fried chicken that is hand-battered and made to order. All sides are crafted in-house daily, from freshly shredded cabbage for coleslaw to hand-cut potatoes for potato salad. Their sides are often sweet, complementing the chicken perfectly, and they have recently introduced a Fried Chicken Sandwich. Gus's has garnered attention from prestigious publications such as GQ, Forbes, and the LA Times, celebrating them as a top contender in the culinary world.

With franchises in Southern California, Gus's Fried Chicken launched its first Los Angeles location in Mid City. Since then, they have expanded to three additional locations, including Burbank, Santa Ana, and Oakland, while maintaining a straightforward, delicious menu. Each Southern California location operates as a full-service restaurant, open seven days a week. The Oakland location adopts a fast-casual approach, operating from Wednesday to Monday. This presents a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team within a reputable brand.

Gus's is in search of a dedicated, hands-on General Manager to oversee operations at their Oakland location. This site operates under a fast-casual, counter-service model, with a lower volume compared to their Southern California counterparts. The role requires active participation in daily operations, whether assisting at the cashier, helping with food preparation, or working on the line. Candidates should be exceptionally guest-focused and value outstanding customer service. A vibrant, energetic demeanor that thrives in a fast-paced, unique environment is essential. General Manager Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all business operations while remaining actively engaged with the team
  • Manage operational costs effectively
  • Lead and guide the team to success
  • Ensure food quality, safety, and sanitation standards are met
  • Create a positive and enjoyable work atmosphere
  • Take ownership of the business to drive sales and profitability
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, team appearance, and productivity
  • Set a standard of excellence in hospitality and service
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of the restaurant

General Manager Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager, ideally in a similar casual or upscale fast-casual dining environment
  • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • High standards for cleanliness, health, and safety
  • Experience managing P&L
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Experience in restaurant openings is a plus
  • Process-oriented with the ability to implement operational procedures for efficiency

Compensation Package Includes:

  • Base salary in the $75-85k range, depending on experience
