After-School Program Educator

After-school educators will demonstrate creativity, innovation, and enthusiasm in their teaching and are expected to cultivate an environment that encourages children to think creatively, communicate effectively, explore independently, and develop self-confidence and problem-solving skills.
We aim to fill multiple positions to restore our after-school programs to in-person learning. These are part-time, hourly roles available throughout the academic year, following the NYC DOE schedule. After-school programs operate Monday – Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM with clubs lasting 1.25 to 2.5 hours. Individual schedules will vary by program. Opportunities are available to instruct multiple clubs across different locations.
Compensation: $44/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Education Directors to develop program curriculum
- Create lesson plans aligned with Manhattan Youth's educational goals
- Facilitate classroom instruction that promotes student-centered, project-based learning
- Organize and prepare activities and materials for daily sessions and lead children in engaging activities
- Model and promote Manhattan Youth's core values and behaviors for staff and students
- Work with colleagues to foster a positive community and showcase student achievements
- Regularly communicate with the Program Director regarding classroom progress and challenges
- Participate in staff meetings and development sessions, adhering to training requirements
- Ensure the safety of children during activities, recreation, and outings, and respond to emergencies
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience with middle or elementary school children, preferably in an after-school setting
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge and passion for the subject area; professional experience is a plus
- Experience with educational technology instruction and practice
- Ability to build and maintain respectful relationships with families, students, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
- Proactive problem-solver, capable of anticipating challenges and managing unexpected situations
- Willingness to accept feedback, engage in self-reflection, and strive for continuous improvement
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly
- Flexibility to work at multiple sites as needed
- Ability to nurture, support, and accept all children
- Proficiency or coaching experience in some of Manhattan Youth's program areas (sports, arts, academic enrichment, leadership, etc.); participation in varsity or college sports and/or theatre is a plus
$44/hour. We are dedicated to fostering joy, success, and belonging through our programs for children, adults, and seniors throughout New York City.
