Description
We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Law Enforcement Officer. The starting annual salary for lateral transfer candidates will be determined based on experience, either at Step 3 or Step 4 of the pay scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct patrols in unincorporated areas to prevent and identify criminal activity; perform investigations at crime scenes; enforce applicable laws and provide assistance to the public.
- Respond to incidents of reported crimes; secure crime scenes; conduct interviews with victims and witnesses; collect and preserve evidence; apprehend suspects; complete necessary documentation.
- Investigate accidents and provide emergency first aid until professional medical assistance arrives.
- Issue citations for violations of state laws and local ordinances; execute arrest warrants.
- Address citizen complaints; provide information regarding laws and regulations; assist in problem resolution and make referrals to relevant agencies.
- Oversee the safety of detainees in medical facilities and during court appearances; transport detainees to and from correctional facilities and court.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports.
- Provide testimony in court as needed.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED. An associate degree or 90 college credits in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field is preferred. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient, and must be at least 20 years of age. Successful completion of job-related assessments is required.
Special Requirements:
A valid Washington State Driver's License is mandatory prior to appointment. Candidates must pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, criminal record review, polygraph examination, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Understanding of basic law enforcement procedures.
- Proficient in English grammar and communication.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work independently in high-pressure situations.
Working Conditions:
This role involves frequent interaction with distressed individuals, outdoor work in various weather conditions, and operating a vehicle for travel. Employees must wear protective gear and may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
