Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide advanced nursing care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced nursing care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests when requested by lab personnel.
  • Administer medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.
  • Make rounds and/or home visits as needed and work in other locations at the SSLC as needed.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs.
  • Monitor individuals' health status after treatments and procedures.
  • Recognize symptoms of illness and report accurately to RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
  • Timely and accurately document and report pertinent treatments and observations in the individual's medical record.
  • Lead, monitor, and oversee others who are monitoring individuals before, during, and after treatments and procedures are completed.
  • Train/instruct new LVN staff to perform nursing functions at the SSLC.
  • Assist RNs with implementation of protocols, procedures, and programs to improve overall health and safety of staff and individuals.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID) rules, regulations, policy, and procedures.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize patterns of medical necessity treatment.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and/or oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to instruct others.
Working Conditions:

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends.

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems.

The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
