Job Overview:

As a Senior Construction Estimator in the Commercial Construction industry, you will be responsible for leading the estimating team in the preparation of comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role demands a thorough understanding of construction methodologies, cost structures, and strong leadership to deliver accurate, competitive, and profitable project estimates. You will collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather data, analyze costs, and develop estimates that align with project requirements and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimate Preparation: Develop accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Project Bidding: Lead the bidding process, evaluating bid documents, reviewing drawings, specifications, and other project details to prepare bid proposals.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring scope coverage, competitive pricing, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct detailed quantity take-offs, labor, and material cost analysis. Identify potential risks and opportunities for cost-saving strategies.
  • Value Engineering: Provide value engineering solutions to meet budgetary constraints without compromising project quality.
  • Preconstruction Meetings: Participate in preconstruction meetings with the project team, clients, and consultants to ensure estimates align with project objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior estimators and support staff, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing to improve the overall estimating process.
  • Market Trends: Stay current with industry trends, labor rates, and material costs to maintain accurate and up-to-date cost databases.
  • Budget Management: Assist in budget preparation and revisions throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring estimates are aligned with financial goals.
  • Client Interaction: Collaborate with clients to understand project goals, budget constraints, and expectations to develop realistic and competitive estimates.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as an Estimator in commercial construction, with demonstrated expertise in diverse project types (office buildings, retail, healthcare, education, etc.).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise in estimating software such as Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools. Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations. Experience with cost analysis and budgeting.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication abilities to guide the estimating team and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to produce highly detailed and accurate estimates while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying and mitigating project risks while providing cost-effective solutions.
