Position Overview

Responsibilities of the Energy Operations Manager:

The Energy Operations Manager will collaborate with a designated group of Bernhard clients to analyze energy consumption and strategies to implement optimal practices. This role includes overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Central Energy Plant (CEP) for the campus, while also mentoring the client's personnel on the operational and energy management of multiple facilities as part of a broader campus initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Specific duties include:
  • Monitoring daily energy consumption for the facility and offering guidance, best practices, and adjustments to current operations.
  • Advising the client on energy management strategies.
  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Central Energy Plant, including subcontractors, operators, and internal service teams.
  • Managing the Maintenance Reserve Accounts for the CEP.
  • Collaborating with operators to ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Conducting ongoing training for Plant Operators.
  • Creating and maintaining the Plant Operating Manual.
  • Assisting the Bernhard Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) team in coordinating engineering, procurement, and construction activities with operations and maintenance.
  • Facilitating on-site troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts in conjunction with remote support services.
This is a Full-Time, Exempt position that reports to a senior Asset Manager or Director.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • 3-4 years of experience in mechanical construction with a large mechanical subcontractor or MEP design consultant, or 3-4 years of management experience in a central plant or facility.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and relevant standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple ongoing projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and competitors.
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties beyond the standard scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited Program).
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal travel (0-5%) to job sites or office locations.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
  • Climbing stairs and moving in various positions to complete tasks in diverse environments, including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining stationary for prolonged periods, often kneeling, standing, or sitting.
  • Exposure to both noisy and quiet environments.
  • Medium work involving adjusting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
