Position Summary

The San Mateo County Event Center serves as a versatile venue hosting numerous events, including the San Mateo County Fair and the Jockey Club, a facility for horseracing wagering. The parking cashier is responsible for managing cashiering and attendant duties within the parking area of the Event Center. Key Responsibilities

The following are essential functions and responsibilities of this role:

  • Welcome each visitor entering through the parking booth.
  • Collect fees and issue parking tickets as vehicles enter the parking facility.
  • Guide vehicles to designated parking areas as needed.
  • Assist visitors with inquiries and deliver a courteous and professional level of customer service.
  • Account for and balance cash register at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain all equipment and inventory in good working condition, including radios, signage, flags, vests, flashlights, cones, and bicycles.
  • Set up parking equipment in specified locations within the lot as directed.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a friendly demeanor and maintain a clean, professional appearance.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment while building positive relationships with guests and patrons.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Experience in handling cash and credit card transactions is required.
  • Must demonstrate punctuality, responsibility, reliability, and dependability in fulfilling job obligations.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with management, colleagues, clients, and customers through effective customer service principles.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently without direct supervision.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and training that would provide the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods. Most work is conducted outdoors, and the employee may be exposed to various weather conditions. The employee frequently engages in repetitive hand movements as part of daily tasks and is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must be able to speak, hear, and see. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
