Position Summary
The San Mateo County Event Center serves as a venue for a diverse range of events and is home to the San Mateo County Fair, along with the Jockey Club, a satellite facility for horse racing wagers. The parking cashier is responsible for managing cashiering and attendant duties within the parking area of the Event Center. Our team is dedicated to fostering and maintaining equitable and inclusive work and social environments where diversity is celebrated and valued. Key Responsibilities
The following are essential and other significant responsibilities and duties:
- Welcome each visitor as they enter the parking area.
- Collect fees and issue parking tickets upon vehicle entry.
- Guide vehicles to designated parking spots as necessary.
- Assist visitors with inquiries while providing courteous and professional customer service.
- Account for and balance cash at the end of each shift.
- Maintain all equipment and inventory, including radios, signage, flags, vests, flashlights, cones, and bicycles, in good working condition.
- Set up parking equipment in specified locations as directed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must present a friendly demeanor with a tidy appearance.
- Strong skills in customer service and communication.
- Ability to remain composed and exercise sound judgment while establishing and maintaining positive relations with guests.
- Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Experience in handling cash and credit card transactions is required.
- Dependability and punctuality are essential to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with management, colleagues, clients, and customers through effective customer service principles.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform tasks independently without direct supervision.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- A combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.
Physical Requirements

While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for long durations. Most of the work occurs outdoors, and the employee may encounter various weather conditions. The employee frequently engages in repetitive hand movements and is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must be able to speak, hear, and see. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
