Position Summary

The San Mateo County Event Center serves as a versatile public venue hosting a variety of events, including the San Mateo County Fair and the Jockey Club, a facility for horseracing wagering. The parking cashier is responsible for handling cashiering and attendant duties within the parking area of the Event Center. Our team is dedicated to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and valued, enhancing the experience for staff, clients, and guests.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are essential to this role:

  • Welcome each visitor entering the parking area.
  • Collect fees and issue parking tickets as vehicles arrive.
  • Guide vehicles to designated parking spots as necessary.
  • Provide assistance to patrons with inquiries, ensuring a courteous and professional level of service.
  • Account for and balance cash at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain all equipment and inventory in good working condition, including radios, signage, and other necessary tools.
  • Set up parking equipment in designated locations as instructed.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must present a friendly demeanor with a neat appearance.
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in interactions with guests.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Experience with cash and credit card transactions is required.
  • Must demonstrate punctuality, responsibility, and reliability.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with management, colleagues, clients, and customers.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Flexible schedule with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for this position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods. Much of the work is conducted outdoors, and the employee may encounter various weather conditions. Frequent repetitive hand movements are required, along with standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds. The employee must possess the ability to speak, hear, and see, with vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
