DESCRIPTION

As a Property Valuation Specialist, you will be responsible for identifying and assessing both tangible and intangible assets within the jurisdiction, ensuring compliance with local regulations and appraisal standards. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including taxpayers, legal representatives, and government officials, to maintain accurate and transparent property records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough property evaluations: Perform detailed assessments of real estate, personal property, and exempt assets; gather and verify data for new constructions and renovations; utilize departmental guidelines to determine fair market values with oversight.
  • Gather and analyze property information: Collect specific data for each asset; measure, document, and photograph properties to establish value; compile sales data and audit existing appraisal records.
  • Execute field inspections: Visit properties to confirm and audit discrepancies; validate data for new developments and modifications.
  • Prepare documentation for appeals: Collect necessary information and evidence; verify records; conduct further research and field assessments; compile data for appeal proceedings.
  • Assist property owners and the public: Provide guidance on tax-related inquiries; explain appraisal processes, ownership details, mapping, and valuation history.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: A minimum of two years in property appraisal is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, as per regulatory requirements.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of local and state laws regarding property taxation and valuation.
  • Proficient in record-keeping, map interpretation, and property classification.
  • Skilled in using computers, calculators, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
CERTIFICATION:
  • Completion of 40 hours of training every two years is required.
  • Must pass the Appraiser I examination and obtain certification within 18 months.
LICENSING:
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is necessary.
