POSITION SUMMARY

The Echocardiography Specialist is responsible for executing all facets of echocardiographic imaging, which encompasses a range of specialized procedures, including Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms, and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of an accredited cardiac ultrasound program.
  • RDCS licensure through ARDMS is mandatory.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in performing cardiac ultrasound examinations is preferred.
  • Capability to conduct technically comprehensive studies.
  • Strong interpretative skills to ensure thorough examinations and accurate preliminary interpretations.
  • Excellent communication abilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Exemplifies the WSMC Customer Service Values, which are essential for delivering high-quality service to patients and clients.
  2. Prepares patients for cardiac ultrasound procedures by reviewing orders, indications, cardiologists, and previous studies.
  3. Conducts cardiac ultrasound examinations, including trans-thoracic and stress studies, and assists with trans-esophageal studies. Performs two-dimensional, M-mode, pulsed, continuous wave, and color flow Doppler imaging.
  4. Provides preliminary interpretations to the reading cardiologist and occasionally to house staff.
  5. Monitors patients for unusual reactions and observes changes in ECG or vital signs.
  6. May assist in other cardiology areas, such as stress testing, Holter scanning, ECG editing, pacemaker checks, and cardiac rehabilitation.
  7. Maintains required records for quality assurance.
  8. Ensures a safe environment for patients and visitors, maintaining equipment safely and reporting any changes to the Biomedical department.
  9. Manages supply levels appropriately and initiates purchase requisitions for necessary items.
  10. Maintains an up-to-date teaching file and assists in the education of hospital staff regarding ECGs.
