Job Overview:

The Head of the Culinary Arts Program is a key member of the educational staff, appointed to collaborate with the Principal and the Director of Career Technical Education in effectively managing the Culinary Arts curriculum for students in Grades 9-12.

Qualifications:

  • A Culinary degree with a minimum of ten years of professional experience in the culinary field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in food cost management, culinary demonstrations, menu creation, and client billing.
  • Certification as a Culinary Educator recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • A decade of experience as a Culinary Arts Instructor.
  • Current Serv Safe Certification in Massachusetts, renewable every five years.
  • Active membership in professional culinary organizations such as The American Culinary Federation or similar.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in selecting instructional materials for the Culinary Arts program and recommend appropriate textbooks and resources.
  • Provide instruction as needed and exemplify best practices in culinary education.
  • Ensure that Culinary Arts plan books are consistently updated.
  • Stay informed about new educational resources and technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Analyze and discuss student performance data to improve instructional methods.
  • Lead the culinary staff in developing engaging and effective curricula.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and sanitation protocols in all culinary environments.
  • Mentor culinary staff members and promote their professional growth through workshops and meetings.
  • Maintain active participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Oversee the department's budget in collaboration with administrative personnel.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to menu planning and client billing.
  • Facilitate procurement of food and supplies while adhering to established specifications.
  • Engage with suppliers and vendors to ensure quality and service standards.
  • Communicate the needs of the Culinary Arts Department to school administration.
  • Oversee culinary events and ensure high standards of service.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.

Compensation: As per the established contract with the relevant educational association.

Job Requirements: Candidates must meet citizenship, residency, or work visa requirements.
